Jessica Brauer Echtenkamp

Middle School English/Language Arts Teacher

Education & Experience:

Jessica received a B.A. in English with a Theatre minor from Doane College (Crete, NE) in 2012, and completed her teaching certification in Secondary English/Language Arts through the Doane University Initial Certification at the Advanced Level program in 2017. From 2017-2022, she served as an English/Language Arts Educator for 7th & 8th grades at Scott Middle School in Lincoln, Nebraska. Prior to receiving her certification, Jessica also served as a special education paraeducator, supporting students with significant learning differences. Diagnosed with ADHD at age 23, Jessica joins the Groves community after over a decade of personal growth and discovery of what living into her authentic self — an individual with ADHD — looks like. She is beyond thrilled to have discovered GLO and the wonderful things happening here to support students like her and her brother (an individual with dyslexia), and is humbled by this opportunity to continue her career by helping to carry out the mission of Groves!

Hobbies:

Outside of her career, Jessica (a proud Hufflepuff, Whovian, and Critter) maintains a plethora of hobbies and interests, including professional & community choral singing, photography, language learning (currently learning Ukrainian), board gaming, and playing D&D with her family. Jessica’s favorite book of all time is “The Phantom Tollbooth” by Norton Juster, and her favorite book series is “His Dark Materials” by Phillip Pullman. Jessica grew up near Colorado, where she was an avid skier — she looks forward to checking out the Minnesota slopes this winter!
