Sparking Skills For Academic Success
Groves Learning Center® offers one-to-one tutoring, both in-person and virtually. We will match your child with an expert tutor who will create an individualized plan to spark your student’s potential.
There are two seasons for tutoring: school year (September through the beginning of June) and summer (June through August). Students may begin tutoring at any time during the year.
Reading and Spelling Tutoring
Our reading and spelling tutors are literacy experts with years of experience teaching reading and spelling to struggling students. Each tutor has training or certification in the science of reading, which may include LETRS® training or Orton-Gillingham-based methods such as The Wilson Reading System® or The Sonday System®. Tutoring includes direct instruction in decoding, fluency, comprehension, and spelling. Reading and spelling tutoring is typically held twice per week for an hour at a time.
Writing Tutoring
Our writing tutors teach students foundational sentence and paragraph writing skills and can provide targeted support on school writing assignments. Many of our writing tutors are former teachers who have years of experience teaching writing to struggling students. Some of our tutors also have additional training in The Writing Revolution®. Writing tutoring is typically held once per week for an hour at a time.
Study and Organizational Skills Tutoring
Our study and organizational skills tutors provide instruction and guidance in organization, study skills, and test-taking strategies, and help students apply what they’ve learned to school assignments and homework. Study and organizational skills tutoring is only offered during the school year season and is held once per week for an hour at a time.
Study and organizational skills tutoring can be combined with writing tutoring in one-hour sessions per week to address the executive functioning needs of students who struggle with school writing assignments.
“Working with a tutor who understands how our daughter learns has been so reassuring. She feels smart and confident.”
