Diagnostic Evaluations For Learning Disabilities
Do You Have a Child Who Is Struggling in School?
A comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation by Groves Learning Center® can shed light on how your child learns and what you can do to empower them to succeed in school.
Psychologists at Groves Learning Center go beyond the diagnosis to empower parents, guardians, and students with a clear understanding of the learning challenges and provide tools and a plan of action that ignites the child’s success.
We provide diagnostic evaluations to students of all ages. Our goal is to determine why a student is struggling and where the learning process is breaking down. With this information, we develop a plan that illuminates solutions using proven strategies and interventions.
Components of a Psychoeducational Evaluation
Goals of our comprehensive evaluation:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of strengths and weaknesses that are affecting daily functioning.
- Identify and outline recommendations for resources, accommodations, and specialized instruction that specifically fits the needs of your student.
- Empower the parent/guardian.
Cognition
Assessments that look at underlying factors that affect how a student processes information, such as memory, processing speed, and verbal/nonverbal abilities.
Academics
Assessments that specifically target all areas of academic strengths and weaknesses in reading, writing, math, and spelling.
Social-Emotional / Executive Function
Assessments that examine areas that can have an effect on learning and processing that may or may not include neuropsychological measures. Some of the areas we examine are attention, focus, and controlling feelings of anxiety and depression.
Four Phases of a Psychoeducational Evaluation
Phase 1: Conversation
We start with a conversation to understand your child and your concerns, then guide you to the right resources and providers.
Phase 2: Evaluation Day and Parent Interview
Our psychologists take a collaborative approach to understanding your child, spending a full day getting to know your child and gathering history through you, your child, and other providers.
Phase 3: Feedback and Discussion
After the evaluation, the psychologist will meet with you to provide insightful answers, tools, and solutions so you leave feeling empowered to advocate for your child.
Phase 4: Ongoing Support
We understand that receiving a diagnosis of a learning disability or attention disorder can be overwhelming. There is so much new information to take in and so many decisions to make. We are here to be a beacon that guides and supports you through this journey, ensuring your student gains the confidence they need to succeed.
