Groves Continues to Develop Literacy Leaders within Local Schools

Groves Literacy Partnerships hosted the 3rd Annual Literacy Leaders Summit on May 22!

Groves Literacy Partnerships (GLP) continues to develop literacy leaders in our local schools, with ongoing efforts that support and nurture teachers remaining at the forefront. When a school partners with GLP to advance literacy instruction, the goal is to change the culture of literacy in the building, improve reading instruction, and impact student reading achievement. Key to this process are the Groves Literacy Partnerships’ In-House Literacy Coaches and School Leaders.

What is the Literacy Leader Annual Summit?

At this year’s annual event, GLP hosted new and returning In-House Coaches who received training and support on how to be effective literacy coaches in their schools. The event ended with a Literacy Panel that featured the The Reading League Minnesota and Director of Groves Literacy Partnerships Katharine Campbell. The panel discussed information about the Minnesota READ Act, and the role of the The Reading League Minnesota, and answered questions about literacy instruction.

What is the role of an In-House Coach?

Groves Literacy Coaches help identify, train, and mentor teacher leaders in each partner school who can serve as In-House Coaches. In-House coaches take over the coaching role from the Groves Coach and their work positively impacts instruction and student achievement. In-House Coach ensures that the GLP Literacy Framework is sustained by leading teacher coaching, leading professional development, and overseeing the Multi-Tier System of Instruction (MTSS) model continues within their schools. In-House Coaches are essential to improve reading achievement.
